Halloween 2010

Current mood: accomplished

Happy Halloween!!! well I am day late, but you know how it is when trying balance TWO kids... time always gets away from you.

We had a GREAT Halloween this year! It was Mia's 3rd year trick-or-treating and Alex's 1st AND Grandpa Pizano's 1st year being with us to help celebrate one of my favorite little holidays!

After having Mia carve out her pumpkin, in the morning, we had her lie down for a nap so she would be all fresh and rested for her big day ahead of her. Once she woke up we got the whole family ready and off to the mall we went for some Trick-or-Treat fun! I was both excited and nervous, I wasn't sure how Alex would be since we had to wake him up from his nap too but he did really well... just not in the car since he was crying because he lost his binky. Even Mia said "Oh no! Baby binky!" as she was trying to tell us what happened.

Once we made it to the mall, we unloaded the car and off we went to start our fun. Since Alex's costume was a bunting (aka sack) we couldn't put him in it at home because we couldn't strap him in the car seat, so once we made it inside the mall we found an open table at the entrance and there is where he transformed into SUPERBABY!!! Everyone around us fell in love with him and all I could hear is "Awww look its Superman"! Even Daddy had him "flying" around and it was the cutest thing ever! Mia on the other hand was ready to get some CANDY! and couldn't wait to start trick-or-treating.

Once Alex was ready, we took Mia to the first store to trick-or-treat. She wasn't sure what to do at first but it didn't take long before she caught on. She was so excited to get candy in her little pumpkin bucket and refused to allow anyone to hold it for her... even when it got really heavy. We only had one accident where the pumpkin bucket went flying and fell on the floor but Daddy sprang into action and helped her pick up her candy... so did some strangers who felt bad for her. Mia didn't cry though and once her candy was all accounted for she was ready to go again!

We all took turns taking the kids around the stores. At first, Adrian took Mia while Grandpa went with Alex and I stood by and took TONS of pictures and videos. After awhile we swapped and I took Alex and trick-or-treated a few places, then Adrian took Alex and Grandpa took Mia! Everyone had a turn with the kids and we all were happy and beaming with pride.

By mid-trip Mia went nuts and really got the hang of trick-or-treating. Even if the store was out of candy she still insisted on trying to go inside and get some. She even did a first, she actually trick-or-treat BY HERSELF! Thats right, Daddy set her down and she ran up to the store and held out her bucket for candy. Once she got candy she ran around (literally) and then came back to Daddy. I was so proud of her and even captured the big moment on video! My little girl is growing up so fast! She did really well until she started to notice all the attention Alex was getting. She didn't like that too much and soon Daddy had to take her way ahead of her brother so she wouldn't get jealous anymore. Alex on the other hand stole the show with every store! EVERYONE fell in love with him and clerks often grabbed other co-workers to come see him. Even the people in the mall stopped just to see him and one family actually asked if they could take a picture of him!!! He stole everyone's heart. Mia did as well, everyone loved her costume and she kept saying she was "super-hero". I even got into the spirit and wore a Wonderwoman cape that I borrowed from my Sis-in-Law (Lauren) and she would say "Superhero Mama!" I thought that was cute.

By the end of the trip BOTH Mia and Alex's buckets were overflowing with candy! Especially Alex's (which I made myself) which was already tiny but was bursting at the seams with candy! Mia was so proud of her bucket and was a good girl, she didn't start tearing into the candy until we made it back to the car.

Once we were all pooped out we headed back to the car. It was already getting dark and almost time to go around the neighborhood. The car ride wasn't as smooth as we would hope, though Mia was having fun munching on her candy in the back seat, Alex was NOT happy and screamed the whole ride home. He cried so much that his little voice went out and Mia said "Oh no! Alex broken!" poor baby. Once we got to the house I ran him inside and changed his diaper. Yep, another poopie but luckily we had a stage 1 diaper on him and it held! No blow out this time.. YAY! Once he was all cleaned up I fed him dinner while Grandpa, Mia and Adrian watched the World Series in the livingroom and handed out handy.

Once Alex was all fed and set, Daddy decided to stay home with him while Grandpa, Mia and I went trick-or-treating around the block. It was too cold to take Alex out... bummer.... but Mia was all set to go and I wanted to make sure she had a chance to go door to door. So I got ready and went out in the garage to grab my camera out of the car, thats where I saw the BIGGEST spider I have EVER seen!!! It was hanging out near the door entrance! It was giant wolf spider, the biggest I have ever seen while living here. I quickly called to my Dad to see and he almost jumped back when he saw it! I then told Adrian to see and he agreed it was, by far, the biggest spider we have ever had here at the house! Luckily Grandpa was brave enough to spray it with some poison and the crisis was over.

Mia couldn't wait to go outside to get "more candy". So we headed out. Of course Mia, although she was a superhero, didn't want to walk or fly! haha So Grandpa had to carry her house to house. Unfortunately, the neighborhood didn't get into the spirit as much as they used to, so we didn't have many houses to choose from. The first couple of houses were pretty mild... no scary things, but once we hit the spooky houses Mia got scared. She didn't want to be put down to get candy and insisted that Grandpa hold her. She never cried though.

After taking some pictures and videos and when Mia could no longer walk it was time to go home. Her pumpkin bucket was heavy with all kinds of treats and she was happy (so was Mama who was eying out her chocolates!) We walked back home and rejoined Daddy and Alex. Alex was already knocked out on the couch from his long day at the mall. Mia dove right into her candy and was soon buzzing all over the house. She even helped Daddy hand out candy to the kids!

We let Mia stay up past her bedtime as a treat and she surprised us all by asking to go to bed!!! We all were shocked, this was a first, Mia HATES "night night" and for her to ask to go to bed was HUGE! So Daddy put her to bed and she knocked out just as fast as Alex, only she was still in her costume! haha

Overall the day was AWESOME! I couldn't ask for a better Halloween! We all had so much fun and I can't wait until next year!
